The surface finish protects your copper pads and decides how well your board solders, how flat the pads are for fine-pitch parts, and how long boards can be stored. Choosing the wrong one can mean assembly defects or paying for more than your design needs.
NextPCB supports a full range of finishes, from HASL and ENIG to ENEPIG and hard gold. Four finishes are available in the instant standard PCB quote, and the rest are quoted through the advanced PCB quote. Find your finish below, then continue to the quote page to place your order.

The advanced PCB quote also covers HASL, lead-free HASL, ENIG and OSP, so you can combine any finish with advanced board types such as HDI, rigid-flex and high-frequency boards.
Start from what your board needs to do.
| If Your Board Is… | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A cost-sensitive prototype or general production run | Lead-Free HASL | Low cost, good solderability and RoHS-compliant |
| Fine-pitch BGA, QFN or a dense layout | ENIG, or OSP for a single assembly pass | Flat pads give consistent solder paste deposits |
| Industrial, medical or automotive, with rework or long storage | ENIG | Handles multiple reflow cycles and stores well |
| RF or high-frequency | Immersion Silver or Hard Gold | Our recommended finishes for low insertion loss |
| Rigid-flex | ENIG | Our recommended finish for bending stress and wire bonding |
| Soldered and wire-bonded on the same board | ENEPIG | The palladium layer supports both processes |
| Edge connector or frequently mated contacts | Hard Gold on gold fingers | Hard electroplated gold resists wear |

| Details | Description |
|---|---|
| Fine-Line Capability | Trace width down to 2 mil on advanced PCB orders. Flat finishes such as ENIG or OSP are the usual choice for layouts this dense. |
| BGA Pad Size | Minimum pad diameter is 10 mil with HASL and 8 mil with ENIG. For rectangular pads, the shortest side is the reference. |
| ENIG Pad Spacing | Keep at least 5 mil between adjacent gold fingers or pads in your design to avoid gold bleed. |
| Via-in-Pad | Filled and capped vias (POFV) are supported on advanced PCB orders. See via-in-pad. |
| Gold Finger Bevel | Angles of 20°, 30°, 45° or 60° with a ±5° angle tolerance and ±0.1 mm depth tolerance. See gold fingers. |
| Full Manufacturing Specifications | For layer count, materials, drill sizes, trace and spacing, solder mask, IPC class and the rest of our process limits, see the standard PCB capabilities and advanced PCB capabilities. |

1. Which surface finishes can I order online?
The standard PCB quote offers HASL, lead-free HASL, ENIG and OSP. Immersion silver, immersion tin, ENEPIG, hard gold and gold fingers are available through the advanced PCB quote.
2. Is HASL RoHS-compliant?
Leaded HASL is not. For RoHS-compliant boards choose lead-free HASL, ENIG or another lead-free finish. The quote form lists “HASL” as the default option, so check the surface finish field before you order.
3. Which finish is best for fine-pitch BGA?
ENIG is the usual choice. It gives flat pads and supports a smaller minimum BGA pad (8 mil, against 10 mil for HASL). OSP also gives flat pads when boards are assembled promptly in a single pass.
4. How thick is the gold on ENIG?
NextPCB applies 1–3 µin of gold over 100–200 µin of nickel. Gold thickness affects price.
5. Which finish is best for RF and high-frequency boards?
Immersion silver and hard gold are our recommended finishes for low insertion loss. Keep silver boards sealed until assembly to prevent tarnishing.
6. Which finish should I use for gold fingers?
Hard gold, which is electroplated nickel-gold built for repeated insertion. Select it on the advanced PCB quote and specify the bevel angle your connector needs.
7. Can NextPCB help me choose a finish?
Yes. Upload your files to the advanced PCB quote for an engineering review, or check them yourself with the free online Gerber viewer.
