Introduction

In an era of sleek, minimalist tech, there is a growing movement of engineers and makers who long for the tactile, soul-filled aesthetics of the 80s and 90s—blended with the raw power of modern silicon.

NextPCB Accelerator invites you to bridge the gap between decades. Whether you are building a pocket-sized cyber-deck, a high-end ergonomic split keyboard, or breathing digital life into vintage gear, we are here to sponsor your journey from concept to PCBA.

Core Categories

We are looking for innovative projects in the following three tracks:

1. Cyber-Retro Terminals: Portable "Cyberdecks" and mini-computers

  • Desktop monitors featuring E-ink displays, vintage gauges, or analog dials.

2. Ultimate Custom HIDs (Human Interface Devices):

  • Ergonomic split keyboards, specialized macro pads with haptic feedback.
  • Creative controllers with integrated OLED screens, rotary encoders, or unique sensors.

3. Vintage Tech Reimagined: Modernizing "obsolete" hardware

  • (e.g., converting a 1980s typewriter into a Bluetooth mechanical keyboard).
  • Restoring retro consoles with custom-designed internal PCBs.

Sponsorship & Incentives

To support the most ambitious designs, NextPCB is offering:

Full Prototyping Sponsorship: Up to $500 USD per project to cover PCB fabrication, Component Sourcing, and PCBA (Assembly) services.
Advanced Material Support: Special access to Aluminum-base PCBs (perfect for retro industrial aesthetics) and Flexible PCBs (FPC) for compact, wearable, or split designs.
Note: All approved projects qualify for standard FR4 sponsorships. Aluminum and Flex PCB support is selective. Applicants must provide full design documentation and explain why these materials are essential for their project.
Showcase Your Project: Outstanding projects will receive a $50 Amazon gift card. To qualify, simply share your finished project on social media and gather 100 likes. Every 100 extra likes earns an additional $50.

Technical Requirements

  • Mainboard Design: Projects should ideally utilize modern MCUs (e.g., Raspberry Pi RP2040/2350, ESP32 series).
  • Open Source: Preference will be given to projects shared on platforms like GitHub, Hackster.io, or other plateform.
  • Manufacturability: Designs must pass a basic DFM (Design for Manufacturing) review by the NextPCB engineering team.

How to Apply

  1. Submit your Concept: Share your brief project description via the NextPCB Accelerator portal. Here
  2. Get Approved: Our team will review your application for creativity and technical feasibility in three work days.
  3. Place Your Order: Receive a sponsorship coupon for up to $500 and watch your hardware come to life in our state-of-the-art factory.

At NextPCB, we believe that the best way to predict the future is to rebuild it. The Retro-Future Reboot is more than just a hardware challenge; it's a tribute to the pioneers of computing and a launchpad for the next generation of iconic devices.

Whether you're a professional engineer or a weekend maker, we provide the industrial-grade manufacturing and high-tech materials you need to turn your "Cyber" dreams into tangible reality.
