Gerber files are the de facto standard for communicating PCB data from design to manufacture. Nearly all PCB design software can export PCB Gerber files, however, problems arise from poor implementations of the Gerber standard, incorrect export configurations and misunderstandings on the designer's part. Fabricators use Gerber files to produce the printed circuit boards, which is why it is vital to check and understand PCB Gerber files, not just the design file.

Many PCB manufacturers boast free DFM reviews as part of their offerings. In the most basic sense, DFM review checks that the boards can be manufactured by the board house and is a necessary stage in PCB fabrication. However, to avoid causing delays, factories may not thoroughly check the files or only report problems that affect the manufacturer's ability to produce the boards.

NextPCB Viewer accepts these file formats:

Package one set of files into a .zip or .rar archive file for upload.

CAM View: Open the silkscreen layers and check if the silkscreen text is readable. In normal CAM view, text on the bottom side should be mirrored.
Realistic/3D Preview: If available, open the 3D preview and check the top and bottom sides. In realistic view, the text should not be mirrored on either side.

This usually happens when the archive file is missing Excellon drill files or the routing/mechanical/milling layer (.GML, GKO, etc.).
Re-export and ensure your package includes drills + board outline + slots/cutouts so the viewer can render fabrication features correctly. Make sure the features are exported into the mechanical layer.

Re-export using a standard format and keep all layers aligned to the same origin; if needed, cross-check the ZIP in another viewer to confirm whether it's a file issue or a preview issue.
